Terrawatt began as a bold vision to redefine excellence in Nigeria's oil and gas sector. Our founders, a team of local engineers and industry veterans, recognised the urgent need for homegrown technical expertise to address the nation's infrastructure gaps.
Founded in 2013 in the bustling heart of Lagos, Terrawatt began as a bold vision to redefine excellence in Nigeria's oil and gas sector. Our founders, a team of local engineers and industry veterans, recognised the urgent need for homegrown technical expertise to address the nation's infrastructure gaps. Starting with a single workshop in Ikeja, we focused on valve maintenance and pipeline integrity services, driven by a mission to deliver world-class solutions while empowering Nigerian talent.
In our early years, we prioritised building trust through reliability. By 2015, Terrawatt became the first Nigerian company to achieve ISO 9001 certification for industrial maintenance, a milestone that cemented our reputation for quality. We trained over 100 local technicians in advanced inspection technologies, bridging skill gaps and reducing reliance on foreign contractors. Our breakthrough came in 2017 with a landmark contract to maintain pipelines for a major Lagos-based refinery—proving Nigerian firms could rival global players.
As demand grew, we established regional hubs in Port Harcourt and Warri by 2018, strategically positioning ourselves to serve Nigeria's oil-rich Niger Delta. Collaborating with NNPC and international partners, we introduced innovative solutions like AI-driven flow measurement systems tailored to Nigeria's unique multiphase flow challenges. Our work in curbing pipeline vandalism through smart monitoring technologies earned recognition from the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), aligning with national efforts to reduce hydrocarbon losses.
The 2016 oil price crash and subsequent recession tested our resolve. Rather than retreat, we diversified into renewable energy support services and offshore inspections, securing contracts on Nigeria's first floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels. By 2020, despite COVID-19 disruptions, we deployed Nigeria's first locally operated ROV (remotely operated vehicle) for subsea inspections, a testament to our adaptive spirit and commitment to innovation.
Rooted in Lagos but serving the nation, we've prioritised community empowerment. In 2019, we launched the Terrawatt Skills Initiative, training 500+ Niger Delta youths in HSE-compliant maintenance practices. Partnering with Nigerian universities, we funded research labs for pipeline corrosion prevention, addressing challenges endemic to our tropical climate. These efforts earned us the "Best Indigenous Oil & Gas Servicing Company" award at the 2022 Nigerian Energy Leadership Summit.
Today, Terrawatt stands as a symbol of Nigerian ingenuity, with projects spanning from Lagos offshore fields to northern gas pipelines. As we celebrate a decade of service, our focus remains on sustaining homegrown excellence while advancing energy transition goals. From our Lagos headquarters to the farthest reaches of the Niger Delta, we continue to write a story of resilience, innovation, and pride—proving that Nigeria's energy future is best built by Nigerians.
